Once you come up with an idea for an event, one of the first things to do is to find your keynote speaker(s). You not only want to find a speaker, but you want to find a good speaker that fits with your brand.
When I organized Fail Fest Raleigh 2015, I turned to Veronica, Sarah, and the team at Orate to help find a speaker that was the right fit. The first thing that they asked me was “What is the goal of the event?“. I loved that this was the first question, because to find the right speaker, you have to know what you want to accomplish with your event.
If you do not know what you want to accomplish with your event – do us all a favor and go back to the drawing board. Do NOT put on an event to just put on an event. You will be wasting your money and everyone’s time.
The speaker(s) that you choose should again fit with your brand. Not only in what they talk about, but with their personality as well. We recommend finding footage of your speaker, so that you know what you are getting into.
Don’t forget that your speakers are part of your audience with the overall event. You will want to think about their experience with your event as well. How do you communicate with them, how do they get to the event, do they know what is expected of them, what is your communication with them after the event, etc. The professional speaker community is small and speakers talk to each other about how the speaking experience is at different events.
How does your speaker provide value to your audience? And how do you provide value to your speaker?
